SERVICES AND FACILITIES
CARE CENTRE
This facility is controlled by the Matron who is a qualified sister and staffed by competent
personnel who provide emergency assistance, post-operative and frail care to residents. A
daily charge is levied to residents requiring accommodation in the CARE CENTRE and is
payable over and above all other levies. Rates on application.
Supervision of medication and personal care in the suites is available on request. (A nominal
charge is levied for services rendered in your Suite)
COCKTAIL BAR LOUNGE
The BAR LOUNGE is located in the foyer of Greenacre House.
Guests are always welcome.
The liquor licence limits the service of alcohol to the following areas only:
The bar
The dining room
The main lounge & card room
The veranda, adjacent lawn, and pool area
NOTE: Liquor may NOT be served in individual suites.
Liquor from the bar can only be purchased with coupons, and will not be served unless
coupons are produced at the time (NO credit)
Coupons are obtainable from reception during office hours, and must be paid for in cash or
by cheque. (Non-residents may not purchase coupons)
You are permitted to bring liquor on to the premises for personal consumption in your suite.
Personal liquor may not be consumed in the Bar.
Thursday night from 5 - 6 p.m. is “Happy Hour” for the ladies, during which time a lucky draw
with prizes is held. Wednesday Nights are Men's night during which special sandwiches or
snacks are offered.
CATERING
The “Alcove” section in the dining room is utilised to facilitate entertaining of family and
friends for meals. Tables must be reserved at least 6 hours in advance at the reception.
Seating in the “Alcove” is limited, so “first come - first served”. Please ensure that you
receive a booking confirmation slip.
The charge for guest meals (variable) will be debited to your Levy account.
Please ensure that you sign the account each time you entertain.
Foodstuffs, other than “breakfast fruit” and Sunday evening supper, may not be taken from
the dining room.
Take-away items such as breakfast fruit are provided for your own consumption and you are
requested not to take these if they are intended for the staff. Staff members are adequately
fed and are not permitted to partake of any foodstuffs intended for residents.
MEAL TIMES - Please be aware of the under-listed times - which are not negotiable.
Breakfast 7am - 8.30am Lunch 12midday - 1.15pm Dinner 5pm - 6.15pm
Dinner on Sundays & Public Holidays from 5pm - 6pm
Residents are requested not to take any crockery, cutlery, hollowware or glassware from
the dining room to their suites.
Should you be away from Caister for 30 consecutive days or more, a 50% discount on the
food levy is credited to your account.
Reception will supply you with a standard “Application for credit form” which must be
completed before you leave.
NOTE: Forms completed retrospectively will not be honoured.
TRAY SERVICE
This service is provided only for those persons who, owing to illness, are not able to come to
the dining room and a charge is made for trays delivered to the suite @ R4.00 per tray.
“Illness” has to be confirmed by the Matron or Sister in Charge.
Residents are encouraged as much as possible to take their meals in the dining room, rather
than utilise the tray service.
Persons who are not classified as “ILL”, and therefore are capable of eating in the dining
room, will be levied R6.00 per tray delivered.
(Note: Tray charges are current at the time of printing and may be changed from time to
time)
Orders for meals in rooms must be placed with reception NO LATER than
10a.m. for Luncheon or 12 midday for Supper.
Breakfast orders must be placed the previous day.
Late orders will only be accepted under special circumstances.
MORNING & AFTERNOON TEA/COFFEE
These are served in the lounge and on the veranda at 10.15a.m. and 3.15p.m. daily. The
refreshments are provided for consumption by residents and their guests only. Tea/Coffee
will not be delivered to suites.
SNACKS, SANDWICHES, CAKES
If you should be entertaining and would like to order these, please do so at least 6 hours in
advance from Reception.
As this service is not part of the normal service rendered by Caister, prices are based on
acceptable commercial rates for similar products. The cost will be charged to your Levy
account. Do not pay cash to the waiter or reception.
HOUSEKEEPING
CLEANING OF SUITES
DAILY: Your bed will be made, your bathroom cleaned & the bins emptied. WEEKLY:
Your suite will be dusted, vacuumed and spring-cleaned.
WINDOWS: Will be cleaned every 14 days (weather permitting).
As the chamber-maids have a set routine, please do not attempt to change the cleaning
schedule with them. Chambermaids are not permitted to wash or iron your clothes. Please
DO NOT ask them to do this.
If you have any special requirements please discuss these with the housekeeper and every
effort to help you will be considered.
COURTESY BUS
A FREE shuttle service runs to Musgrave Centre at 9am (Mon - Fri)
The shuttle schedule to other centers is published on the notice board.
Transport to medical facilities in the vicinity must be booked with reception, but please note
that we are not obliged to supply this service.
If transport is not available at the required time, we suggest that a taxi be called. This will be
your own expense.
AIRPORT SERVICE: Transport can also be arranged to the airport - please book this with
Reception. There is a charge for this service. (50% of tariff charged by taxi operators at the
time, and subject to availability of the bus)
GUEST SUITE
A suite (max. 2 persons) has been made available for the use of residents’ family and friends.
Breakfast is included in the tariff. Guest meals are served in the Alcove section of the dining
room. Charges for meals other than breakfast will be debited to your extras account.
Bookings for the guest suite may be made at Reception - you must obtain a confirmation slip
for the bookings made. If a booking is made for the suite and your guests do not arrive and
you have not cancelled the booking, the full charge for the suite will still apply and be
charged to your levy account.
The current tariff for the suite is available from Reception.
It is necessary to advise Reception of the meal arrangements your guests require.
LAUNDERETTE
This is located on the first floor of the garage in the main block. The self-service “token
operated” machines are for use by all residents. Tokens must be purchased at a nominal
charge during office hours from Reception.
An iron & ironing board are also located in the Launderette.
(NOTE: Please do not overload the machines and do not place washing in the dryers which
has not been “spun dried” in the washing machine, as this will cause an electrical fault AND
electrocution of the operator could result)
LAUNDRY SERVICE (Personal effects)
This service is chargeable and provided by the Laundry department. Your maid will take your
washing together with the Laundry List to the laundry and return this upon completion. The
laundry form is obtainable from Reception. Charges will be debited to your monthly levy
account.
DO NOT PAY CASH FOR THIS SERVICE.
Laundry prices may be altered without prior warning.
The Caister Lodge does not accept responsibility for any damage that may occur to laundry.
Room maids are not permitted to wash and iron your personal clothes.
LINEN
Towels and bed linen are supplied.
Bed linen is changed once per week.
Towels are changed twice per week.
You may utilise your own bed linen and towels if you so desire. You must ensure that this
linen is clearly marked with your suite number. Our laundry will wash these items at no cost
to you, as per the “change” schedule above. The Caister does not accept any responsibility
for any damage that may occur.
PARKING
A limited number of reserved undercover parking bays are available at a nominal monthly
rental. A waiting list is kept by the General Manager. Residents without allocated parking
bays are encouraged to park their
vehicles in the non-covered parking bays in the rear car-park, thus leaving space for visitors
cars in the front car park.
RECEPTION
This is the heart of Caister Lodge.
All queries or enquiries can be made here.

Mondays 8.00a.m.- 5.00p.m.
Tuesday - Fridays 7.30a.m. - 6.00 p.m.
Weekends & Public Holidays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
SERVICES RENDERED BY RECEPTION STAFF:
Appointments with management.
Mail collection & sale of postage stamps.
Sending and receiving of faxes.
Sale of bar coupons.
Sale of meal vouchers for domestics and personal staff.
Transport bookings e.g. for doctors or airport.
Account enquiries and payments.
Purchase of bread & milk.
Safekeeping {short term}.
All other general enquiries.
SECURITY
A 24-hour access and patrolling service is provided.
All visitors entering the premises are required to sign-in at the front gate.
Residents with their own vehicles must obtain parking discs from Reception to speed up
access.
Additional discs for use by family members will be issued on application. Discs must be
displayed on the passenger side of the vehicle windscreen.
You are requested not to give the security staff any instructions as they are under the direct
control of the General Manager.
Please direct any observations or comments to him for action.
A electronic key is available from reception for those who require one to open doors from
the garage. (Deposit R100)
SWIMMING POOL
A pool is provided for the use of residents and their guests.
An adult who can swim must accompany children under the age of 10 and the resident must
accompany any guests using the pool.
The directors and management will not be held responsible for accidents which may occur
to residents and guests whilst using the pool area.
ENTERTAINMENT
CARD ROOM
This is located off the main veranda - There are 5 card tables. Table bookings must be made
timeously to avoid disappointment. In fairness to all players, tables may not be booked the
day before.
LIBRARY
This is located in the card room. The library has a large range of reading material. Books may
be taken as required, but you are requested to return borrowed books as soon as you have
read them, for the convenience of others. Please do not keep books in your suite
unnecessarily. Donations of books to the library are gratefully accepted.
BINGO
This very popular pastime at Caister is held in the main lounge every Tuesday and Friday
evening.
A lucky draw with prizes is normally held at this time.
Please note that Bingo is not played on religious or public holidays.
OTHER ENTERTAINMENT
During the year there are many occasions when entertainment is arranged for the benefit of
residents.
Amongst these are: - musical evenings - invited musicians and choirs - Easter Bonnet
parades - theatre evenings - video evenings - in-house competitions - fashion shows -
excursion trips - mini markets (organised with outside suppliers) etc.
Notices advising forthcoming entertainment events, as well as general information are
displayed on the Main notice board.
DRESS CODE:
You are requested to ensure that, you are properly and neatly dressed whilst in the public
areas. This will ensure that Caister maintains its’ existing high standards.
Gentlemen please note that you are requested to wear long trousers and a casual shirt in
the Dining Room, Lounge and Bar especially so after
4.30 p.m. (T - shirts are not permitted in any area at any time)
SMOKING
As your suite is your home, you may of course smoke in it, but please keep your passage
door closed so as not to inconvenience non-smokers in your immediate vicinity. Please open
a window whilst smoking.
Ensure that your suite is ventilated when smoking as excessive smoke may activate the
smoke detectors.
SMOKING IN PUBLIC AREAS
ALL CAISTER’S PUBLIC AREAS ARE SMOKE FREE ZONES !
SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED IN ANY INTERNAL PUBLIC AREAS!
SMOKING IS PERMITTED IN THE FRESH AIR AREAS SUCH AS
THE MAIN VERANDA OR ANY PART OF THE CAISTER GROUNDS.
Should you have any additional or special requirements
you can discuss these with the General Manager.
TELEVISION SERVICE
DSTV - DIGITAL SATELLITE TELEVISION
Caister Lodge provides the Satellite signal to each suite.
PLEASE NOTE: Only the aerial contractor approved by Caister Management is permitted to
work on or install aerial systems on the premises.
DSTV RATES
A special DSTV monthly subscription rate has been negotiated with Multi-Choice for
residents. This charge is billed direct to your levy account each month. The reduced tariff
will only be applied if your Multi Choice account is paid through your Caister Levy account.
NEW RESIDENTS PLEASE NOTE: If you already have an account with Multi-choice, please give
the relevant information to the General Manager who will on your behalf arrange to have
your account attached to the Caister consolidated account. It is your responsibility to
cancel your current payment options. Please DO NOT deal with Multi-Choice direct on the re
activation of your service. (See House rules)

e-MAIL SERVICE
Residents with families, who might wish to communicate with you by e-mail are invited to
utilise our e-mail service.
Incoming messages may be sent to (unitnumber)@caisterlodge.co.za for eg:
emailing 14@caisterlodge.co.za will result in the email being delivered for unit No. 14.
Except in cases of emergency, an “outgoing” E-mail service is not available. (Please contact
the Reception if you have an emergency message to send.)
The incoming service is free for receipt of ordinary messages, however, there will be a small
charge of R5.00 (per print) to print colour photographs when these are received. This charge
will be added to the monthly Levy statement.
As we receive numerous messages every day, please advise your family to clearly indicate in
the ”Subject” box for whom the message is intended.
We cannot take responsibility if a message is delayed or not delivered if it is not properly
addressed.
E-Mails will not be available for delivery after office hours or on week-ends.
GENERAL:
Residents are invited to discuss any problems or queries they may have as soon as the
problem arises and are therefore invited during normal office hours to speak to Reception or
after hours to the Sister in charge of the Clinic. Appointments to see the General Manager
can be made with the receptionists. General Manager is available for discussions on any
Caister related matter - Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
